My issue of media stereotypes is racial, a belief among various races based on different cultures because it’s based on stereotypes of African Americans. African Americans are singled out to be criticized and judged based on how the media portrays them such as thugs, criminals, gang bangers, ghetto, un educated, un dependent etc. African Americans are not the only ethnic group that made mistakes which means they shouldn’t be represented as a mistake or disgrace to society. African Americans or another ethnic group for that matter should be known to society embarrassed. African Americans are singled out to help the media get ratings, which is not fair. These stereotypes cause society to view African Americans as they are represented in the media, which is negative and deceitful.
Personally this is cruel and unfair because African Americans are more than what the media think they are. There are African Americans who finished school and are succeeding or have already succeeded in their careers. I think that the media should acknowledge the positive things African Americans does instead of all the negative. Movies are portrayed representing African Americans dropping out of school and not being able to become anything in life because they have no education. Rather, then just saying it the media is also showing it through movies and television shows. A lot of people judge off what they hear and see rather then what is in front of them or what is really going on in reality which is education rates increasing, and more African Americans are being employed.
