Globalization
In some ways my issue, the negative effects the media portray of African Americans connects to globalization, a process of interaction and integration amongst the people, companies, and government of different nations. People, culture and economic are multiple perspectives of globalization. There are pros and cons for and against globalization, which are creating jobs, lowering prices for consumers, creating economic growth. The cons of globalization are the inequality of majority of the world, an increase in human trafficking, and the factory safety standards are ignored.
African Americans are not in control of anything because whites have more power over African Americans, which lead African Americans in poverty, unemployed, low paying jobs and poor education. The media portrays African Americans as UN educated and poor but in reality African Americans has education because a lot of them graduate from high school and attended college. However, African Americans are forced to live off the government with welfare, social security, UN employment checks, EBT food stamps, health, etc. African Americans don’t have any power over Whites who owns businesses, and is in charge of jobs or the system. Globalization is based on integration, governments, companies, and interaction but without power African Americans cannot make a change in society with little resources from the government and lack of UN employment rates. According to Corporate Media Ownership Disney, Viacom, AOL/TW, Clear Channel, and New corps is the social networks that own the media and they are all global networks as well. These are the networks that basically get the messages out to society of stereotypes, news feed, gossip, or the things that's taking place in the world. It is basically up to these networks to present ethnic groups in negative or in positive ways to society. The internet and television especially plays a big role in this situation because it is very powerful and has a lot of information on ethnic groups all across the globe weather its positive or negative. Television has reality shows that also support the media theories or false accusations about other ethnic groups.
Globalization connects to my issue because the media is controlled by the upper class man, and in order to continue to portray black people ignorant, UN educated, and violent they control what's being printed and what society is reading. Politically they put puppets in office that they control to get legislation passed to ensure globalization and economically the welfare system is a form of globalization. According to Social and Cultural Impacts of Globalization “globalization is a social and cultural process in backgrounds interacts with each other in all spheres of life more intensively than before”. Basically humans are humans are able to share their experiences through the global networks of work and information, this help improve the lives of other individuals and families. Cultural globalization theorists sense a change in the public, which they claim is partially due to the media's attention on global events and the emphasis on the inter-dependency of humanity. Culture should be seen as the process of the cultivation of an intricate inner life that takes on form and meaning in social action on a global scale, which means that culture can be interacted all across the globe and be also be represented through the media in a negative and positive way depending on the issue or what's being presented or read by society.
Social networking is a powerful tool that helps people communicate in ways we could not imagine, they benefits to social networking that can have a global improve of education and business interactions occur around the world. Social Networks helps get messages about the world out and the things occur in the world as well. Being able to interact through social networks can improve how people relate to each other and protect the environment. Social networking can be presented in ways that effect, neglect or help improve ethnic groups in society by the things that are being presented or noticed in the media from society on positive notes or negative notes. By social networking being so powerful makes it very difficult for African Americans to go up against it because social networking has a lot of connections to other networks that would support them, while African Americans only have their word that they expect to make a change with. However, African Americans shouldn't give up so quickly because change is possible and everyone voices need to be heard. This will solve how African Americans are portrayed not only in America or the media but all across the globe.
These solutions would either help ethnic groups challenge or represent the stereotypes that are being represented across the globe from social networks that different races are up against. African Americans are the most target ethnic group because they are represented in a negative way from social networks. Being labeled as criminals, ghetto, loud, ignorant, low educated, poor, etc are what society believes about them and are expected to see these things because these are the things they were forced to think and believe about African Americans. These solutions can also be effective by social networks representing more positive things about African Americans that can be proven by statistics. The media should take into consideration that a positive change has occurred in the past two years that African Americans has done.
